Puerto Morelos offers many fun and adventureous activities for everyone:
Beaches

Snorkeling, Diving & The Reef
Captain Raul Carrasco’s Reef Adventures is Abbey Del Sol’s only recommended reef snorkeling operation in Puerto Morelos. Raul offers a unique reef experience. Quality equipment, personal attention, and thorough knowledge are the hallmarks of Reef Adventures. A former professional diver with a biology background, Raul has been diving and snorkeling in these waters for more than 25 years. Not only does he provide a safe environment to explore the second largest natural reef in the world but also firsthand knowledge of its unique eco-system. One of the first licensed snorkeling operations by the national park authorities in Puerto Morelos, Raul’s love and appreciation of the reef is clear. All of our return guests who have gone with the smaller boats in town and then gone with Raul say he is the only one they will go with again. Enjoy an experience unlike any other in town.

Swimming with the Dolphins
There are numerous places to swim with dolphins. Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Xel-Ha and Xcaret. Often they are very difficult to get into and plans need to be made far ahead. Some have reservation systems or else it is a first come, first serve adventure and you need to be an early riser.
Fishing
There are deep seas fishing adventures available from the pier in Puerto Morelos for around $150 a day. Larger, big game fishing is available in Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel.

Cenotes
Cenotes are sink holes and caves filled with crystalline water that can be found all around the area. The clear, cool water is very refreshing on hot, humid days. They are famous for providing excellent diving and snorkeling experiences. Be sure to ask our caretaker, Jim, for the best ones to visit.
Cozumel
Cozumel is the largest island in Mexico (32 miles long). Only a quick ferry ride from Playa del Carmen, Cozumel is surrounded by some of the most beautiful reefs on the planet, which have cliffs of magnificent coral and some of the world's most challenging wall diving sites. Cozumel is legendary the world over for the superbly clear visibility of the ocean surrounding it.
Cozumel was a Mayan ceremonial center centuries ago, worshiping Ixchel, the goddess of fertility. San Gervasio is the most popular ruins site on the island. In this century the city of Cozumel offers all range of hotels, wonderful restaurants and a variety of great shopping.
Mayan Ruins
The Yucatan Peninsula has more archeological ruins than any other area in the Western Hemispheres - nearly 1200 sites. The most well known sites are Tulum and Chichén Itzá. Cancun itself was once a Maya lookout over the Caribbean shores and has remnants of ancient watchtowers and light houses. Coba, a site buried in the jungle, is a half hour past Tulum going inland and features the highest, climbable temple in the region. |

Tourist Attractions
For those who enjoy large, American style tourist attractions there is Xcaret and Xel-Ha. Xcaret is a privately-owned eco-archaeological park 20 miles south of Puerto Morelos. A little farther south is Xel-Ha which is smaller and state owned. They both offer snorkeling and swimming in their shallow lagoons. Both of these attractions are very expensive and usually very crowded. We strongly recommend talking with our caretaker and letting him direct you to much less expensive and more enjoyable experiences.
The activities and attractions available in and around Cancun are too numerous to list. Cancun has been one of Mexico's biggest tourist destinations for years. Anything from the fanciest hotel to the most rustic local market is available for your enjoyment. You can spend a day just in the Hotel Zone, an 18 mile long stretch of beach that curves out into the Caribbean and back around to the mainland. It is filled with huge hotels, restaurants and shopping malls. It is not recommended for those who want to experience Mexico; there is very little "Mexico" in the hotel zone. The Spring Break crowd, however, thinks it's the best.
30 minutes south, Playa del Carmen features 20 blocks of restaurants and shops along Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), a pedestrian-only street shaded by huge trees during the day and lit with sparkling lights at night. For those interested in nightlife options, Playa is an easier and more accessible choice than Cancun. At night Playa becomes one vast, international singles bar. The ADO bus lines goes from the Puerto Morelos highway stop to Playa ever 10 minutes and is an easy, cheap way to travel.
